Moora Moora offers its own schedule of activities and workshops that you may be
interested in joining as a participant. Some general examples are listed here but you
should check our calendar of coming events.
Day Visits
Organised adult or school groups can visit Moora Moora for day visits. These are guided
by members of our community and provide a sample of various aspects of our community including:
- Forest ecology,
- Farming activities,
- Earth architecture and building,
- Renewable energy systems,
- Community structures and processes.
We may also be able to focus a day visit on the special interests of your group.
Residential Courses
Our residential courses focus on personal development, sustainable living and community
building. Examples from the past include:
- Meditation, yoga and massage,
- Stress management and relaxation,
- Cooperative living,
- Deep ecology,
- Living in nature,
- Owner building,
- Living with renewable energy.
Camps
Camps can be oranised to cater for the interests of the participants, and in the context
of community activities, including:
- Bushwalking and orienteering,
- Nature studies,
- Tree planting,
- Gardening and harvesting,
- Earth and strawbale building,
- Spinning and weaving,
- Swimming,
- Cooking,
- Meditation, yoga and massage.
Voluntary Labour Exchange
People wishing to learn more about co-operative living can offer
Moora Moora labour in exchange for food and lodging. Moora Moora is a member organisation
of the Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF) scheme and has also been host to
representatives of Conservation Volunters and Overseas Co-operative Volunteers.
Accommodation
'The Lodge' is a fifty-square, two-storey brick building with bunk rooms for up to
twenty-five people, two bathrooms, a kitchen with gas cooking and refrigeration, and a
large dining room with a wood fire and tables and chairs to sit up to fifty people.
It also has a large lounge and meeting room with its own wood fire.
the Lodge s surrounded by an 'English Garden' and is close to other recreation facilities
and native forest.
With beds in the Lodge, camping and billeting with members, groups of up to fifty people can be accommodated.
Meeting Space
The 'Octagon' offers a separate space for meetings, recreation, etc. It has
a simple kitchenette with gas cooking and refrigeration, a large carpeted room with
folding chairs, a wood fire and a pool/billiard table.
Activity Space
Our 'cafe' can be used as meeting space for small groups and as an activity area.
It is a simple building with a concrete floor, tables and chairs, wood fire and
gas cooking.
Camping
A small camping area is located near a large dam in our forested sanctuary
area. The camping ground has a fireplace with a barbecue plate, and bush toilets.
The dam is suitable for exerienced swimmers.
Billeting with residents
Some of our members have accommodation for visitors who would like to experience a
closer look at our community by staying on a housing 'cluster'.
Food and catering
All course and events can be fully catered, and vegetarian food is an option. Where
possible we use organically grown local food, some grown on teh propeerty. Meals
are normally provided on af ully catered basis, however groups using our
facilities may arrange to self-cater.
Recreation
Recreation facilities at Moora Moora include an oval, tennis court, trampoline, BMX track,
dam for swimming, bushwalking and cross country running trails, campfire and barbecue facilities.
